Through the Student Success Center, faculty writing coaches are available to assist you during all stages of the writing process, including:

  • Understanding the assignment
  • Generating ideas
  • Selecting quality sources
  • Planning, drafting, and organizing your paper
  • Editing your paper for clarity, grammar, punctuation, and style
  • Using correct APA format

You may request a face-to-face meeting with a writing coach either in-person or online, or you can collaborate in a Google Doc--whichever format works best for you!

PLEASE NOTE: writing coaches may need a few days to set up an appoint or to review and return papers, depending on the length of the paper and the number of students seeking assistance at any given time. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO SEEK ASSISTANCE.

Request an appointment anytime by emailing academicresources@mccn.edu.

As a student at MCCN, you receive a FREE Grammarly membership. It will make your life infinitely easier, but only if you use it, and use it correctly. First, be sure that you sign up for your FREE account by going to https://www.grammarly.com/edu/signup and filling out the form. Use your mccn.edu email address. If you use another address, you will not receive a free membership. You MUST use your mccn.edu email address.

Once you've created an account, you can upload your entire paper to Grammarly. It will then "read" your paper and offer a detailed report of any grammar or punctuation mistakes, instances of word repetition, awkward sentence structures, and misused words. If you feel overwhelmed by the report, do not feel discouraged. It is one step in the process. Print out the report and make an appointment with a faculty writing coach at the Student Success Center. We will go through the report with you and help you make the appropriate changes. Then, once you get the hang of revising papers with the help of a Grammarly report, you'll know what it's like to have your life made easier.

Remember:

2. Sign up for your free account - with your mccn.edu email address
3. Upload your paper
4. Print out your report
5. Make corrections on your own or bring your report to your appointment with a writing coach
6. Enjoy a life made easier
